• There are many things to consider before you commit to a mural.

    • The space the mural will occupy
    • The taste of the person(s) who will occupy that space. If the mural is going in a child’s room, did that child pick the theme, how old is the child, does their taste change on a whim?
    • Choosing the artist to complete the mural

Below are some hints to help you get exactly what you are expecting with your mural.

Choosing an Artist for your Mural

    1. Be sure the artist can paint! I have seen many examples of work that was billed as painted by an artist that clients begged me to ‘fix’ because it was poorly executed and amateurish. Expect a professional job, executed in a professional way and you will be happier with the results and the artist. Ask for samples in the form of websites or portfolio or both. Request referrals if you have any doubts at all. Do your homework first to avoid regret later.
    2. Come to a clear understanding of the end result of the work to be done before hiring. Any professional, trained artist should submit a sketch that can be altered till you both come to agree on the design to be executed. You should know the look of the finished work before work begins. This eliminates disappointment. I have interviewed with several clients who had previously hired someone to do work, only to be disappointed with the result either in craftsmanship or final appearance or both. These problems are easy to fix BEFORE the work begins, but not AFTER.
    3. Agree on price and payment schedule before work begins.
